West Oakland Stories

21st century. These people , who would be called heroes today

we're just "everyday" people who made a positive difference.

The True History

To all of you who are familiar with the history of Oakland Calif regarding its black population during the 40’s 50’s and 60’s and agree that history should be told coming from the real live people who lived there at that time then I invite you to support me and others to document this history now before we are no longer here.

We will not be able to do this unless you donate what ever you can to support us.

Don’t let other people come in and document our story with there twist on what ever we say.

Ed Howard

WE DON’T CRITICIZE

The people in the West Oakland Stories will be the fathers and mothers, grand father and grand mothers of the young people you see in the negative news media today etc. We know why they are like the are and we can tell you about there attitudes.

We don’t criticize them 24/7 we embrace them because they are just a
reflection of us. We know they are the strong and intelligent because we were the strong and intelligent. You need to see and here this knowledge coming from us.

We are like archives we will not throw anything away because our life has been valuable.

You must donate so this knowledge is not lost.

Ed Howard

UPDATE FOR SEPT 2012

Oakland is Not Bad

Saturday September 29 was a beautiful day, Leonard Gardner and I did our first filming for our West Oakland Stories TV series at the Defremery Park West Oakland Annual Reunion. We are gathering film clips to be used in the WOS.

Let me tell you this was such a positive event. The elders, the middle age, the young adults, the teenagers and the children were just glowing and full of confidence in themselves. You see this image is not projected about Black people by the Slave System. But when you see the West Oakland Stories TV Series on OURTV, CH 78, Oakland, when we complete it next year, you will not accept nothing short of seeing Black Oakland portrayed any other way.

Let me give you an example of what I experienced when interviewing one group of little children in the age group of about five to seven or eight years old. I asked a young lady to gather a group of young children and ask them to say “Oakland Is Not Bad” altogether. The Young lady began to talk to them and when she came back to me and said they asked could they say “Oakland Is Kind Of Bad?” -  I then asked them if they could tell me what they had seen that was bad about Oakland.  None of them could tell me any bad experience that they had in Oakland period. But they could not say “Oakland Is Not Bad.”

What I am showing you here is that the TV, newspaper, books, magazines, radio, schools, churches are all expressing the negative things that we read and hear about every day which the Slave System pumps out to us and the world nonstop about Black people. You grownups are old enough to tell the difference but our children's minds are being shaped every day by the Slave System.

After reading this I hope you will understand how Oakland is always leading the way when it comes to waking our people up by showing how we really are. We don't fake we just be ourselves and let it flow. Watch the West Oakland Stories TV show and you will see the Real Black Oakland and not the Slave System Oakland which has been projected to the World.

We have scheduled three more filming events, the McClymond’s 1962 Class Reunion, October 20th 2012: the Teens of the 40's, 50's and 60's on November 24, 2012 and live interviews of the real West Oakland people of the 40's 50's and 60's at DeFremery Park in the Club House Ballroom on February 16,  2013 at 12:30 PM.

Now show us some love so we can make this happen by making a donation, be as generous as you can.
